Slide on Over with New Patio Doors

Doors create an image in your mind before you even turn the door knob! Simple or ornate…heavy oak or slick vinyl. It’s all about how you feel and what emotions you want the door to trigger.

Same thing goes for the patio doors in your Tucson home. There are several styles of sliding doors and each one provides a calling for you or your friends to come on inside!

Doorway to Paradise (or at least your garden)

First on the list are gliding doors or bypass doors. These patio doors let in a lot of natural light and are easy to maintain. Sliding doors consist of two or more individual panels, at least one of which slides back and forth on hidden rollers. The sliding panels can be combined with fixed panels to create dramatically broad expanses of glass. Panels slide parallel to the wall so they don’t interfere with furniture placement or walking areas.

Next up are swinging patio doors, often called hinged patio doors, which operate in much the same fashion as standard exterior doors. They are full-view glass panels and often hang in pairs. The doors are center hung, hinged on either side of a central mullion and open much as butterfly wings. A second type of hinged patio doors include French doors. French doors are hinged at the side so that the door panels meet when closed.

The folding patio door system, on the other hand, can open a wide area to the great outdoors. The system operates accordion-style, which means each section slides on an overhead track and neatly folds away for full access. They are available in several configurations, ranging from two to eight leaves.

Choose Wisely

Vinyl is the popular material for many new patio doors for a variety of reasons. It is the most energy efficient material, for one thing. Vinyl is designed to be resistant to heat flow, which can help save you money on your energy bill. Vinyl is also very durable because unlike other materials, such as wood, it does not absorb moisture and will not warp over time.
